If you haven't made plans for your pets, the time is now.  It can be as simple or complex as you desire.  Leave your pet to a trusted family member or friend.  Create a pet trust to ensure your pets have care for the rest of their lives.  Consider a perpetual care facility if you don't have trusted family or friends.  There are lots of options.  Our pets are like our children, they deserve to have a secure future.

This is a follow up to an earlier article on animal cruelty and domestic violence.  If you know of someone who is a victim of domestic violence and can't or won't leave their home because they fear what will happen to their pets if left behind, there are a growing number of shelters that provide housing for pets.

This is important information everyone needs to know.  People who abuse animals are more likely to abuse or kill people.  Florida has tried and failed (so far) to pass a domestic violence law that would protect animals from family violence.   We need to support all domestic violence laws that support helpless victims, including pets.

Antifreeze is deadly to pets.  Now, it may be safer with the addition of an additive to make it bitter and unappealing.  If you use antifreeze, make sure it is not accessible to your pets and always buy pet safe antifreeze.

This is a pretty good article on a variety of pet related matters, but especially on the veterinary malpractice issue.  We recently received a call from a man whose dog had been burned by the carelessness of individuals working at a local emergency clinic.  His dog faced numerous and expensive reconstructive surgeries.

The Worst Horror of Pet Food Confirmed in Spain

Don't think for a minute that we really know what is in our processed pet food.  Very, very scary.  No proof yet that U.S. pet foods are involved as the names of all of the companies have yet to be released.  

Also, if you eat any kind of animal protein, you really don't know what those animals have consumed prior to their slaughter.  If the stories here are true, they are feeding dead dogs to cows.
